Use of primers to enhance adhesive bonds

Through the results of studies on the use of primers in three different situations — on polymeric surfaces, to improve the durability of steel surfaces and for high temperature resistant adhesive — it is shown that a primer can make an essential contribution to the strength and durability of adhesive-bonded joints. However, it is also shown that the choice of primer and adhesive combination, the solvent, pH and concentration of the primer solution and the drying conditions of the primer are factors that must be taken into consideration to produce optimum joint strength.
