Zusammenfassung: | Measurement research like this requires considerable effort that is detailed in their report and perhaps one reasons that efforts like it constitute the minority of surgical education research.2 Failing to consider measurement at the onset of curriculum design or reform results in a surgical educator pondering how he or she would ever know if the new or revised curriculum produced the desired learning outcomes. An alternative to eliminating conferences would be to modify them to create more engagement and the results of this study provide some early clues about modifications that might be helpful. [...]it might be wise to connect using video if possible. [...]there are other ways to increase the activeness of conferences that have been developed in collocated meetings and could be used in this virtual environment to improve engagement like using a polling function to display and discuss the group's answers to questions.6 Any of these proposed interventions should be properly tested which then returns our attention back to the fact that these investigators have produced a measure that will allow surgical education scholars to properly evaluate the impact of any modification of video-mediated instruction on surgical learner engagement.Declaration of competing interest Please find enclosed the invited commentary for AJS4381R1 Assessing learner engagement with virtual educational events: |
