Zusammenfassung: | To the Editor: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and intellectual disability (ID) are highly prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders in the United States, affecting 1 in 54 and 1 in 100 children, respectively.1 Despite this prevalence, children with ASD/ID disproportionately struggle to access appropriate mental health services owing to a dire shortage of child and adolescent psychiatrists with expertise in working with these populations.2 In a 2013 survey, child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship program directors reported a shortage of resources, specifically faculty experts, to provide clinical and didactic instruction to their fellows on ASD/ID. [...]the creation of a curriculum with essential learning topics in ASD/ID implicitly conveys what topics people should be familiar with when working with these groups. |
