Zusammenfassung: | Previously abstracted from original as item 9312-31-4741. The effect of hydrogen on the mechanical properties of VT3-1 titanium alloy were investigated in the temperature range 700-950 deg C, representative of temperatures observed in the cutting zone during machining by hard-alloy cutters. It is found that alloying by 0.3-0.5% H facilitates machining of the alloy. The presence of H in these amounts enhances the deformability of the metal and lowers the impact toughness at the cutting temperature; the chips become brittle after cooling. |
