High-MgO composite ceramics for use in sodium-based cells
A composite glass/ceramic is being developed for use in a sodium-based cell. Numerous ceramics in the high-MgO portion of the MgO-Al 2O 3-BaO, CaO-B 2O 3 system were studied to determine whether the thermal expansion behavior matched that of a highly conductive glass electrolyte. The thermal expansi...

3 system were studied to determine whether the thermal expansion behavior matched that of a highly conductive glass electrolyte. The thermal expansion behavior of two composites closely approximated that of the glass. Glass-to-composite seals have been made and thermally cycled from ambient to 450°C. After this cycling, no sign of seal degradation was observed. |
