A dislocation network model for creep

Zusammenfassung:Two of the predictions of the network creep theory of Ostrom and Langenborg (O--L)--(1) that the strain is produced by the gliding dislocations and (2) that the steady state is independent of the initial state--were examined. The first prediction was deduced form the fact that overall strain rate generated by the climb of dislocations is zero using a simple, pure dislocation loop model. The second prediction was also analyzed and its implication to the creep test was discussed and compared to results form a creep experiment performed on polycrystalline magnesium at 200 deg C. The experimental results supported the predictions of the theory reasonably well.
