Carbon onions introduce new flavour to fullerene studies

The notion that flat sheets of carbon hexagons are the most stable form of carbon is being questioned by the synthesis of giant nested shells of carbon that may be onion-like relative of fullerene. Concentric giant fullerene shells are discussed.
