Zusammenfassung: | The factors limiting the commercial viability of high-melting-temperature intermetallic compounds for structural applications are discussed. It is noted that, for high-temperature structural applications, creep strength is the primary requirement; however, for intermetallic compounds, the lack of low-temperature ductility becomes a major limiting factor. Both the creep strength and ductility are highly sensitive to structure and composition. Selection criteria are discussed as well as mechanical properties and future development strategies. (K.K.) |
