The peat had been cut and stacked, each stack having its owner; the food brought for this annual outing had been consumed; quaintly-clad women were going to and fro, collecting the mugs and platters which were scattered about the turf; and men, half fishermen and half farmers in appearance, were untethering the horses and harnessing them in the carts.
