Zusammenfassung:Previously abstracted from original as item 9201-F2-C-0172. Optical fibres have been prepared from As--S, As--Se, and As--S--Se glasses. The optical fibres are characterized by low attenuation and good mechanical strength. Their performance was dependent on the absence of defects or cracks and on the quality of their outer surface. Continuous distillation is recommended for the purification of the raw materials used for the production of these glasses. A thin PTFE film is recommended for the protection of the outer surface of the fibres.
