Zusammenfassung:The microhardness of batches of single crystals of tetragonal (or slightly orthorhombic form) of modifications having a T sub c of approx 59-60K was investigated by indenting the surface perpendicular to the (001) long axis. Specimens were obtained by spontaneous crystallisation from the melt of non-stoichiometric oxides in the metals ratio Y:Ba:Cu = 1:5:14. Results for Y sub 1 Ba sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 7-- delta suggest that the single crystal in general belong to the group of solids very susceptible to brittle fracture. 10 ref.--S.K.
