Zusammenfassung:Crack-free near-net-shaped [0001] orientation sapphire blanks of nearly hemispherical shape and 8 cm diameter have been produced directly from the melt by the heat exchanger method. Molybdenum preforms placed in the crucible did not perturb the solid-liquid interface during growth. The inside and outside curvature of these blanks can be accurately controlled.
