Effects of phenols on the hydration of portland cement
Phenols increasingly retard hydration of white portland cement as number of hydroxyl groups increases, chemically interacting with cement surface or Ca hydroxide, forming impermeable coatings, or poisoning nucleation and growth of Ca(OH)#72 crystals.
