Effect of thermochemical treatments on the strength and microstructure of SiC fibres

RT strength of commercially available polymer-derived SiC fibers degrades during the typical high-temp. thermal cycle used in ceramic matrix composite fabrication. RT strength improves in two different commercially available fibers after annealing in C powder at up to 1600 degrees C.
