Zusammenfassung: | Inflammation and its timely resolution are critical to ensuring effective host defence and appropriate tissue repair after injury. Unresolved inflammation typifies many renal pathologies. The key drivers of the inflammatory response are well defined and targeted by conventional anti-inflammatory therapeutics. However, these are associated with undesirable side effects including immune suppression. More recently, there is growing appreciation that specialized lipid mediators [SPMs] including lipoxins promote the resolution of inflammation and endogenous repair mechanisms without compromising host defence. We discuss the pro-resolving bioactions of lipoxins and recent work that aims to harness their therapeutic potential in the context of kidney disease. |
