Zusammenfassung:	Procedure is described for spectrophotometric determination of nitrite in water, based on reaction of nitrite with p-aminophenylmercaptoacetic acid in the presence of hydrochloric acid to form a diazonium cation which is subsequently coupled with N-(1-naphthyl)ethylenediamine dihydrochloride in acidic medium to form a stable bluish-violet azo dye. Optimal conditions for the procedure were determined. The proposed method was free from interferences by copper, ferric iron, and sulphite. The advantages of the proposed method over other procedures are indicated.
