Perspectives on neural networks

There are several perspectives or frameworks from which neural networks can be viewed. Each perspective gives a different view of where the field is going and what can be accomplished: a) the historical evolution of AI; b) generalization of hardware/software/knowledge engineering; c) the modeling approach; d) non-linear field theories; e) relaxation and annealing; and f) biological analogy (the existence proof). The author reviews each perspective.
