Zusammenfassung: | A 34 Mbit/s optical transmission system operating at a wavelength close to the 2.55 mu m minimum loss wavelength of ZBLAN fibre is described. The transmitter comprises an externally modulated HeNe laser combined with external filtering to yield a stable single line source at 2.51 mu m. The receiver, based on a novel InGaAs /InP graded composition PIN photodiode has a measured sensitivity of --35 dBm at this wavelength. Preliminary results indicate that this system could yield unrepeatered transmission over ultra low loss fibre spans in excess of 650 km. 5 ref.--AA |
