Zusammenfassung: | Non-destructive methods of evaluating the microstructure of ceramics are discussed. An optical method was used to evaluate two vacuum-tight ceramics; alumina and forsterite. A relationship between light transmission and microstructure was established. The advantages of the optical method of controlling the microstructure of ceramics consist of the possibility of controlling complicated articles, 100% checking of the articles, high output, and the chance to automate the process. The method can also be used for non-destructive testing of articles made from other types of ceramics. 3 refs. |
