Ion-bombardment modification of surface morphology of solids: a new direction in materials science

It has been noticed that the problem of ion-bombardment modification of surface morphology must be considered from various points of view, and that different aspects of this phenomenon must be taken into account. The different aspects discussed are: surface topography, including surface texture and a type observed in cases where it precisely resembles surface structure; and the alteration of the surface geometrical structure generally related to changes in surface shape and surface roughness. 22 ref.--A.R.(UK/US).
