Spall and recompaction of ceramics [studied] using a double-impact technique

The new plate impact technique developed to study dynamic properties of shock-damaged materials yields shock waves for analysis of properties of the damaged region. Preliminary results apply to Cu and polycrystalline Al sub 2 O sub 3 .
