Zusammenfassung:A steel of the composition Fe--0.32C--1.2Si--1.0Mn--0.98Cr--0.2Ti--0.015S--0.02P was austenitized at temperatures from 900-1250 deg C, oil quenched and tempered at 200 deg C and then fatigue crack growth tested at ambient temperature. The fatigue threshold parameter, Delta K sub th increases with increasing prior austenite grain size. This variation is brought about by crack closure in coarse grain structures. The variation in the closure-free component of the threshold, Delta K sub eff,th with the prior austenite grain size is less strong and is attributed to the presence of retained austenite after high temperature austenitization. 18 ref.--D.O.N.
