Zusammenfassung: | Titanium alloys have high strength/ weight ratio and corrosion resistant properties. However, excessive oxygen levels in these alloys can degrade their performance. Five Oxygen levels in Ti-6211 alloys are characterized nondestructively using ultrasonic techniques. The longitudinal phase velocity and attenuation are measured simultaneously using continuous wave ( CW) Ultrasonic Spectroscopy. An ultrasonic wave ( tone-burst) is propagated into the specimen. As the frequency of the toneburst is swept, mechanical resonances in the specimen occur at certain frequencies. The velocity computed from periodicity and the attenuation determined from " Q" are observed to be less in the specimens with higher oxygen concentration. This observation is potentially useful in nondestructive characterization of titanium alloys. |
