Zusammenfassung: | Japan is an aging society, and pneumonia is the leading cause of death, but the suitability of antibiotics for treating community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in Japan is not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate antibacterial drugs for treating CAP according to age.
Using the Japanese national database from 2011 to 2014, we analyzed the usage of antibiotics for CAP according to age.
The numbers of claim information were 9,386, and 70% of the patients were aged ≥ 75 years. Sulbactam/ampicillin (SBT/ABPC) or ceftriaxone (CTRX) was used in 60%, but broad-spectrum antibiotics, combination therapy, and anti-mycoplasma antibiotics were used in 15 - 28% of all age groups. The 30-day survival rate did not differ between SBT/ABPC or CTRX vs. others. There was no difference in 30-day mortality and risk in any group between the ages of 15 and 64 years.
