Relationship between the tensile and shear strength of aramid fibres
If aramid fiber failure occurs when the shear forces at a discontinuity exceed the shear strength of the bond between the fibrous subcomponents, then the fiber tensile strength, in the case of elastic shear stress/strain behavior, should be directly proportional to the shear strength. An experimenta...

Zusammenfassung: | If aramid fiber failure occurs when the shear forces at a discontinuity exceed the shear strength of the bond between the fibrous subcomponents, then the fiber tensile strength, in the case of elastic shear stress/strain behavior, should be directly proportional to the shear strength. An experimental investigation has been conducted to test this hypothesis, estimating filament shear strength by combining the results of two fiber- torsion tests. A positive correlation is established between filament tenacity and shear strength, as predicted. (O.C.) |
