Zusammenfassung: | The Young's and shear moduli of Al-Al3Zr mixtures containing 5, 10, 15, and 25 percent Al3Zr (by volume) are determined experimentally, and the results are extrapolated to pure Al3Zr. The extrapolation to 100 percent Al3Zr yields a Young's modulus of 196 GPa, compared with 130 and 140 GPa obtained for Al6Mn and Al3Li (delta-prime), respectively, by similar extrapolation. The calculated specific stiffness, i.e., the ratio of the elastic modulus to the density, of pure Al3Zr is approximately a factor of 1.8 greater than that for Al. It is concluded that Al3Zr is an attractive dispersed phase for Al alloy metal matrix composites. |
