Zusammenfassung:Diffusion annealing of Cu single crystal slices with Zn sources comprised of fine brass chips (30% Zn) show that diffusion induced recrystallization (DIR) is a heterogeneously nucleated phenomenon in the Cu--Zn system. The nucleation is considered to be associated with residual surface unevenness rather than subsurface dislocation structures. These surface asperities reduce the stresses associated with the formation of nuclei. 6 ref.--D.O.N.
