Taking Care

Sanders discusses her decision to photograph health care workers to deal with her grief from losing her father. When her dad died in early March 2020 from complications related to dementia, she promised herself she would find the nurses who cared for him and write them a letter or thank them in person. But then life happened: There was a funeral home to contact, a death certificate to order, and then, worst of all, Covid-19 hit. Even while her father was sick, the people attending to him seemed a blur, zipping into his room, ministering to his needs, and leaving in a flash.
