Zusammenfassung:Synopsis The point-load test, more commonly used in geotechnical practice, is evaluated for application in concrete testing as a potential method for estimating the strength of steel-fibre-reinforced concrete. Both diametral and axial test configurations are investigated and the effect of load direction in relation to fibre orientation is explained. Whilst the diametral test is suitable for measuring the strength of random three-dimensionally orientated fibre concrete, the axial test is shown to be more appropriate for assessing the properties of an anisotropic material such as sprayed steel-fibre concrete.
