Acid deposition control

The application of cost-benefit analysis to acid deposition control is discussed. Policy issues involved in controlling acid deposition in eastern North America are reviewed together with effects of acid deposition on soils, forests, crops and building structures. Problems in the economic quantification of cost-benefit analysis are discussed with reference to effects on crop yields and prices and potential benefits of control measures assessed. It was considered that the value of cost-benefit analysis to acid deposition control lay in its potential contribution to clearer statements of the problem, minimizing the use of conjecture.
