Zusammenfassung: | Attention is given to the isophotes, luminosity profiles, integrated photographic magnitudes, effective diameters and other photometric parameters derived from surface observations of the UV continuum galaxy NGC 838 obtained with the 74-in. Kottamia telescope. While the nucleus of NGC 838 is quite blue by comparison with normal galaxies, its color reddens from the nucleus outwards. The UV excess, H-alpha emission and radio continuum emission previously observed from this galaxy may be attributed to star formation in the galactic nucleus of a duration slightly greater than 20 million years.
