Laser-induced vapour-phase syntheses of boron and titanium diboride powders

Synthesis of small-diam. B and TiB sub 2 powders from vapor-phase reactants used ir heating from a CO sub 2 laser. BCl sub 3 +H sub 2 gas mixtures and B sub 2 H sub 6 yielded B powders, and TiCl sub 4 +B sub 2 H sub 6 gas mixtures yielded TiB sub 2 powder. BCl sub 3 +H sub 2 +TiCl sub 4 gas mixtures produced TiCl sub 3 powder but not TiB sub 2 .
