Zusammenfassung: | A new experimental activity at the Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (KfK) to study the effects of irradiation on the first wall and blanket materials of a fusion reactor is presented. A special effort is made to demonstrate the advantages of the dual beam technique (DBT) as a future research tool for materials development within the European fusion technology programme. The dual-beam-technique allows the production both of helium and of damage in thick metal and ceramic specimens by simultaneous irradiation with high energy particles and protons produced by the two KfK cyclotrons. The dual beam technique, the design features of the dual beam facility presently under construction, and the planned experimental activities are described. 5 ref.--AA |
