•Laparoscopic extended right hepatectomy in children is a technically demanding, but feasible procedure.•Laparoscopic hepatectomies in children could be carried out in selected patients in centers, experienced both in the liver and laparoscopic surgery.•This video demonstrates laparoscopic-assisted extended right hepatectomy for the first time accomplished in a child but teaches to more precisely plan the procedure and to prefer laparoscopic-assisted or open approaches in difficult cases.
