Radiation- and thermally-induced transformations of crystalline cerium(IV) phosphate CePE

1.56], which has a high ion exchange capacity, have been studied by electron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction. Electron bombardment in the electron microscope transformed CeP-E into either hexagonal CePO
4 or a vitreous glass (dependent on sample thickness), while irradiation of CeP-E with X-rays produced an amorphous material. All of these materials were transformed into highly stable crystalline monoclinic CePO
4 (monazite) by thermal treatments. |
