[...]we have used the term Acute Brain Failure in our previous work and defined this diagnosis as a positive confusion assessment method for the ICU (CAM-ICU) or abnormal full outline of unresponsiveness (FOUR) score or Glasgow coma score (GCS) [1, 2]. For the study in question [3], we used the same definition, but out of deference to the recent statement (a consensus of representatives multiple societies based on expert opinion) [4], we changed the term from Acute Brain Failure to Acute Encephalopathy.
