The M dwarf double-lined spectroscopic binary Gliese 268

Gliese 268 is noted to be a double-lined spectroscopic binary with components of similar brightness, in view of H-alpha neighborhood Digicon observations. An orbital period of 10.4 d is found, together with a mass ratio of 1.20 (primary and secondary minimum masses of 0.191 and 0.159 solar masses, respectively). Given that only two M dwarf eclipsing binaries are known, this system would be of great interest if the separation between its components were sufficiently small for eclipses to occur. (O.C.)
