Zusammenfassung:Examples of anomalous absorption of millimetre waves in the atmosphere are given and evidence supporting an explanation in terms of non-equilibrium species is presented. Emphasis is placed on the need for energy sources to maintain a steady-state of the non-equilibrium species and it is shown that some laboratory experiments have unintentionally included such an energy source.
