Zusammenfassung:China's "Bat Woman" denies responsibility for the pandemic, demands apology from Trump. The coronavirus pandemic has put a fierce spotlight on Shi Zhengli, who heads a group that studies bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China. Many have speculated that SARS-CoV-2, the pathogen that causes COVID-19, accidentally escaped from her lab—a theory promoted by U.S. President Donald Trump. Some have even suggested it could have been engineered there. In an exclusive interview with Science , Shi hit back at these speculations and asked for an apology from Trump. Shi discussed past research at her lab in detail to explain why she thinks it is not responsible and called for international collaboration in science to prevent future outbreaks.
