A similarity model illustrating the effects of a toroidal field and rotation on a magnetosphere
The effects of a toroidal magnetic field on the flow features of a rotating magnetosphere containing a conducting fluid are investigated by means of a similarity solution. It is shown that the effects of the toroidal field are, in general, small in comparison with those of rotation. The solution is...

Zusammenfassung: | The effects of a toroidal magnetic field on the flow features of a rotating magnetosphere containing a conducting fluid are investigated by means of a similarity solution. It is shown that the effects of the toroidal field are, in general, small in comparison with those of rotation. The solution is applied to the equatorial plasma sheet observed in the middle magnetosphere of Jupiter and is found to be in reasonable agreement with some recorded data. |
