Pre-concentration and determination of aquatic sulphide by visible spectrophotometry

Details are given of equipment and a procedure for the determination of total sulphide in water by visible spectrophotometry after preconcentration on a cadmium-exchanged zeolite sorbent followed by conversion to methylene blue. Operational factors affecting the recovery of sulphide by this method were investigated. The method had a lower limit of detection and higher sensitivity than the conventional spectrophotometric method without preliminary concentration. The method was applied to determining sulphide in well water.
