Paint Base Treatment and Paint Film Adhesion for Aluminum and its Alloys

A discussion of the influence of surface conditions and painted substrate treatment on film adhesion for Al and its alloys (1050, 5052) is presented. The influence of metal oxidation, retained oil, hydrate formation, and the alloy itself may give poor results in adhesion. The substrate pretreatment and film treatment (non-organic and organic) are described. The theoretical questions of bond energy, morphology, characterization, layer structures, and the boundary layer weakening effect should be solved. 21 ref.--X.S.(UK/US).
