Zusammenfassung: | A statistical theory of thermal equilibrium which is independent of the microstructure of the system is presented. The stochastic nature of thermal equilibrium and the basic phenomenological principles of classical thermodynamics serve as a basis. The importance of the principle of maximum likelihood estimation in the statistical characterization of thermal equilibrium in the asymptotic limit of a large system is also considered. (K.K.) |
