Successful treatment of brain stem lesions without neuronavigation and intraoperative monitoring: A short case illustration

•Brainstem lesions can still be safely treated without image guidance, stereotactic equipment or intra-operative electrophysiology.•This is possible only with clear knowledge of anatomy of the brainstem and microneurosurgery skills.•This is of particular importance for practice in economically limited regions and areas.•Surgeons in such settings should therefore place more emphasis on microneurosurgical anatomy and skills during training.
