Zusammenfassung: | Ependymomas, affecting both children and adults, are neuroepithelial tumors occurring throughout all compartments of the central nervous system. Pediatric ependymomas arise almost exclusively intracranially and are associated with a poor 10-year overall survival of around 60%. During the last years, the application of multi-omics technologies on the study and understanding of neuro-cancer diseases has become a standard; in this regard, application of these approaches on ependymomas has gained noticeable momentum. The objective of this review article was to summarize all knowledge generated by the application of modern omics approaches with regard to pediatric ependymal tumors, aiming at elucidating molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis as well as identification of pathway strategies that will help in therapeutic intervention. |
