LEED Structural Study of the Adsorption of Oxygen on Cu 100 Surfaces
Observations and quantitative LEED measurements have been made of the adsorption of oxygen on Cu 100 to form a Cu 100 ( root 2 x root 2)R45 deg -O stucture and a Cu 100 ( root 2 x root 2)R45 deg -O structure. Zusammenfassung: | Observations and quantitative LEED measurements have been made of the adsorption of oxygen on Cu 100 to form a Cu 100 ( root 2 x root 2)R45 deg -O stucture and a Cu 100 ( root 2 x root 2)R45 deg -O structure. Using observations of LEED diffraction beam splitting and comparisons of the intensities with dynamical theory calculations, it is proposed that oxygen is first adsorbed into 2-fold bridge sites approx =1.4 A above the metal surface layer, but that it may subsequently be incorporated into almost coplanar 4-fold sites. These proposals are discussed in the light of other results on these systems by different techniques. 20 ref.--AA |
