Zusammenfassung:The electrical conductivity and Seebeck coeff. of Nb sub 2 O sub 5 -doped UO sub 2 were measured. Nb is a donor impurity but not completely ionized and does not result in n-type extrinsic conduction. Intrinsic conduction is attributed to Nb compensation of acceptor levels due to slight excess O in nearly stoichiometric UO sub 2. The band gap in UO sub 2 is 2.14 eV for doped UO sub 2 and 2.26 eV for undoped UO sub 2. Extrinsic UO sub 2 conductivity due to hopping polarons is 0.14 eV.
