Zusammenfassung: | The EPA is mandated to screen 87,000 chemical compounds at a cost of $100 million to identify possible risks to the reproductive systems of humans and animals. Indications of these negative effects have come from researchers in all sectors; however, the results are debatable, not always able to be reproduced, and inconclusive. The synthetic chemicals known as endocrine disruptors allegedly mimic hormones active within the endocrine system. The EPA will narrow the field to 15,000 compounds of greatest concern, each of which will be tested for potential impacts. The highest risk compounds will then be tested on animals. |
