Zusammenfassung:Placenta accreta is defined as abnormal adherence of the placenta to the uterine wall. Placenta accreta is recognized as a common problem in human medicine, but has apparently not been reported previously in great apes, despite similarity in their reproductive biology. A 36-year-old multiparous female Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) and a 20-year-old nulliparous female chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes), with gross uterine and histological uterine vascular changes that are characteristic of placenta accreta, are presented.
