Election Day this year fell on the birthday of socialist visionary Eugene Victor Debs. Debs ran for president five times. He never made it to the White House. But his ideas-minimum wage, public old-age pension (Social Security), municipal utilities-won in the end and are one of the enduring legacies of our socialist movement.
